Department of Cryoendocrinology
Research Fellows:

The Laboratory of Cryobiochemistry of Neurohumoral Systems was organized in 1975 as a part of the Department of Cryobiochemistry of the IPC&C of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Since 1984, it was transformed to the Department of Cryobiochemistry of Neurohumoral Systems and was headed by Prof. Aron Utevsky. In 1987 the Department was renamed the Department of Cryobiochemistry and Pharmacology of Neurohumoral Systems, and the new head was Prof. Volodymyr Chuiko. Since 1996, the Department has been headed by Dr. Tetyana Bondarenko. Finally, in 2016 the Department was transformed to the Department of Cryoendocrinology. Since 2020, the Department is headed by Dr. Yevhen Legach. during its history the Department was home for 22 PhD dissertations, as well as 3 dissertations of Doctor of Sciences.

Head of the Department:
Dr. Yevhen Legach

SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS
The Department studies the process of cryopreservation of multicellular objects, in particular, multicellular spheroids. Another area of interests is the study of the transplantation of native and cryopreserved cells of endocrine glands in animals with experimental models of endocrine pathologies. We are also interested in obtaining tissue-specific stem / progenitor cells of endocrine glands for further use in the practice of culturing and transplantation; obtaining cells derived from the nerve crest in the form of spheroids under conditions of 3D-culturing. We cryopreserve these cells and also study the effect of cryopreserved cultures on the course of neuroendocrine disorders.

RESEARCH PROJECTS
•    Properties of cryopreserved primary cultures of endocrine gland cells of neonatal animals in vitro and in vivo during transplantation (2.2.6.104, Research Code 2.2.6.104, State Registration Number 0116U003494). 2016-2020
•    Morphofunctional characteristics, cryopreservation and therapeutic potential of 2D and 3D cultures of cells derived from neural crest derivatives (2.2.6.134, Research Code 2.2.6.134, State Registration Number 0121U109133). 2021-2025
•    Cryopreservation of spheroids from stem / progenitor cells of different histogenetic origin based on physical and mathematical modeling (2.2.6.148, Research Code 2.2.6.148). 2022-2023
